Mental Health & Grief & Loss Weekend
10 October, 2019 7:00 PM - 13 October, 2019 3:00 PM
Grief is one of the most universal yet isolating emotions. This series of events is an intriguing way to engage all members of the community to reflect and open up the discussion about grief and loss in a healthy, respectful and beautiful way on both a personal and community level.
The project aims to unite the community and remove any shame with connection to mental health and cultivate strength and hope.
This project will be a partnership between the Greater Hume Council, Local Area Health Committee, Art Groups, Riverlife Church, and community organisations.
One of the main facilitators for the weekend will be Melissa Lubke (www.melissalubke.com), a Tasmanian Artist who has a strong connection with the Henty community. As part of the project, Melissa will provide a ‘Lachrymatory’ – an interactive grieving booth. Created from her own experience with loss this participatory installation is touring the nation to collect symbolic tears – written expressions encapsulated in glass droplets. Once seated inside, the participant’s gently take brave steps towards honesty and vulnerability publicly. In private, this aims to lead to a greater sense of trust and compassion in the community as they add to the ever-growing, collective secret response. The underlying message being “resilience and solidarity”.
